The Nikkei led the way down with a loss of more than two percent, the Hang Seng was almost one and a half percent lower, Australia lost 0.8% and Shanghai was off by a fraction. Most indexes in Europe are fractionally higher, with the Footsie currently up by a quarter percent and the Dax higher by 0.4%. US stock futures are up by ...read more

Markets Overseas Weaker: Futures Trading Lower

Stocks were mixed in Asian trade overnight. The Nikkei lost 0.8% on Tuesday, but Australia and Shanghai were essentially unchanged and the Hang Seng gained about a quarter percent. European indexes are however broadly lower on the session, with the Footsie off by about 0.8% and the Dax is currently lower by about two thirds of a percent. US stock futures are down by about 0.6%.

This was expected to be -105k.

The net change in private sector non-farm payrolls is +67k

This was expected to be +40k.

The Unemployment Rate is 9.6%

This was expected to be up one tenth on the month to 9.6%.

The Average Hourly Wages is  +0.3%  on a month on month basis.

This was expected to be +0.1%.

Stocks in Asia were moderately higher. The Nikkei and Hang Seng managed a half percent gain, Australia was up a fraction and Shanghai was unchanged. European indexes are mixed, with the Footsie up 0.4% and the Dax currently a quarter percent higher. US stock futures are down a small fraction as I write.

Burger King (NYSE:BKC):A BIG BITE FOR A HAMBURGER

Looks like Burger King (BKC)  is about to be gobbled up by the private investment firm 3G Capital Management, Inc.  Burger King accepted an offer of $24.00 a share, but also indicated it will keep it’s options open for another offer through mid-October.  After closing at $16.45 on August 31st, it is now trading at the $23.00 -$24.00 level.  A pretty hefty increase for the King.   The offer from 3G ...read more
